There has recently been a lot of focus on food, health and weight management. While it’s great that more people are becoming more aware of their health and finding ways to improve their nutritional intake. It’s important to remember that food is more than health and nutrition.

Food is a versatile national, social and cultural marker. With it we create meaningful bonds, catch up with our loved ones, reflect on life, talk about the latest Netflix show or movie, count our blessings, celebrate milestones and comfort others.

Let’s choose to focus on food freedom rather than food restriction.

Dr. Tai Ezike (née Ibitoye) aka Tai Talks Nutrition is a leading voice in public health nutrition. She is a researcher, registered dietitian and senior lecturer in public health.
